SNK’s Metal Slug series is coming back to PC, but not in the way you may expect. In the same way that X-Com and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is grid-based strategy games, Metal Slug Tactics is. Players will control Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma from Metal Slug as they fight their way through waves of baddies and other opponents throughout the game.
The game’s Steam page and the Summer Games Fest Twitter have a trailer that demonstrates a variety of concepts that are not unique to Metal Slug but also the tactical RPG genre. Sync is one such concept that allows players to launch multiple assaults on the adversary simultaneously, delivering more significant damage to one target before their turn. If the protagonists are cornered, they can call in reinforcements, whether it’s air support, such as the Metal Slug himself, or something more. Metal Slug Tactics also maintains the same level of difficulty as its 2D shooter version, which means that gamers can expect to die a lot. The game’s plot revolves around Donald Morden, the series’ antagonist, who has been hiding for years, methodically building a personal army to take over the globe and get retribution for his family’s death. It’s up to the Peregrine Falcons to take the fight to Morden and stop the devastation his recent worldwide conquest is causing.
Dotemu is working on Metal Slug Tactics alongside SNK, the same studio that worked on Streets of Rage 4 and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. This is an excellent choice for Metal Slug since Dotemu has delivered a fresh and distinct take on the genre that fans adore, right down to the famous pixel graphics style. Metal Slug Tactics will be released soon, so fans should stay tuned for additional information.
